PRESENT PERFECT CONTINOUS TENSE


Present Perfect Continuos
( I Have been Doing)

This tense is used to indicate the duration of an


activity that began in the past and continues to the
present.
We use the present perfect continuous for an activity
that has recently stopped or just stopped.
Time words, such as for, since, all morning, all
day, all week.
The Pattern

(+) Subject +Have/Has + been + Verb –ing +


object/complement
(-) Subject +Have/Has + not +been + Verb –ing +
object/complement
(?) Have/Has + Subject + been + Verb –ing +
object/complement

The secretary Has

John & Anna Have
If the subject is plural or more than one person
(John & Anna) we use “have” in the sentence.
If the subject is third person singular we use “has” in
the sentence.
In negative sentence, do not forget to add “NOT”
after have/has in the sentence
 When we want to change the sentence into
interrogative sentence, put the subject after have/has
and do not forget to add question mark (?) at the end
of the sentence
Examples

The employee has been working for a day.


I have noy been meeting my clients all day.
Have the businessmen been running their business
here for one year? Yes, they have
No, they haven’t
Marry has been sitting here since seven o’clock.
 When the tense is used without any specific mention
of time , it expresses a generally activity in progress
recently, lately. Examples:
I have been thinking about changing my major.
All of the students have been studying hard. Final
exams start next week.
My back hurts, so I have been sleeping on the floor
lately. The bed is too soft.
