EDGAR ALLAN POE He was born in Boston, U.S.A, in the year 1809, January 19, and died when he was 40 years old, the 7th of October of 1849, in Maryland. His dad left the family and his mom died from tuberculosis when Edgar was young. Because of this, was separated from his brothers, and adopted by another family. He begin writing poetry at the 13 years, but he was discouraged by his stepfather and his headmaster. In 1827, after publishing his first book and entering the army, he heard that his stepmother had tuberculosis, but when he came back she was already dead. His stories were based in horror and mystery, combined in an excellent way. His lasts words were “Lord, help my poor soul”. POEM INFO “To The River” was originally wrote in 1828, and published in 1829. The poem was in a collection made up by Edgar Allan Poe and Lambert A. Wilmer, with other poems like “The Raven”.
