What is Classroom Assessment?
K TO 12 LEARNING ASSESSMENT

• Classroom Assessment is an ongoing

process of identifying, gathering, organizing
and interpreting quantitative and qualitative
information about what learner’s know and
can do.
TWO TYPES OF ASSESSMENT
K TO 12 LEARNING ASSESSMENT

1. FORMATIVE ASSESSMENT
• an ongoing forms of assessment that are closely linked to the learning
process
• May be given at any time during the teaching and learning process
• Provides learners with immediate feedback on how well they are
learning throughout the teaching-learning process
• Helps teachers make good instructional decision
• Can be recorded but not graded
2. SUMMATIVE ASSESSMENT
K TO 12 LEARNING ASSESSMENT

• Assessment of learning which occurs at the end of

a particular unit.
• Describes the standard (content and performance)
met by the learners
• Results are recorded and used for computing
grades to report on learner’s achievement (WW,
PT, QA)
WHAT IS ASSESSED IN THE
K TO 12 LEARNING ASSESSMENT

CLASSROOM?
Learning Standards
• Content Standard (knowledge and
understanding)
• Performance Standard (abilities and skills)
• Learning Competencies (KSA in every
lesson)
HOW ARE LEARNERS ASSESSED IN THE
K TO 12 LEARNING ASSESSMENT

CLASSROOM?
• Learners are assessed through various processes
and measures appropriate to and congruent
with learning competencies defined in the
curriculum. (formative and summative)
• Can be individually (ex. quiz) or collaboratively
(ex. Role playing, games, other group activities)
FORMATIVE ASSESSMENT IN DIFF. PARTS OF
K TO 12 LEARNING ASSESSMENT

THE LESSON
1. BEFORE THE LESSON
Informs the teacher about the learners’ understanding of the lesson before direct
instruction (ex. Games, interview, checklist)

2. DURING THE LESSON

informs the teacher of the progress of the learner. It also helps the teacher
determine whether instructional strategies are effective (ex, quiz, recitation,
simulation)

3. AFTER THE LESSON

assesses whether learning objectives were achieved (ex. quiz, performance,
checklist, written work)
SUMMATIVE ASSESSMENT AND ITS
K TO 12 LEARNING ASSESSMENT

COMPONENTS
• Composed of Written Work, Performance Task, Quarterly Assessment.
These 3 will be the bases for grading
1. WRITTEN WORK – ensures that students are able to express skills
and concepts in written form ( ex. long quiz, unit test, essay, written
reports and other written outputs)
2. PERFORMANCE TASK – allows students to show what they know
and able to do in diverse ways (ex. skills demonstration, oral work,
research project, group presentation)
3. QUARTERLY ASSESSMENT – measures student learning at the end of
the quarter (objective type test, performance-based assessment or
a combination thereof)
WHAT IS GRADING SYSTEM?
K TO 12 LEARNING ASSESSMENT

• All grades will be based on the weighted raw score of the

learner’s summative assessment.
• The minimum grade to pass the specific learning area is 75
• The lowest grade that can appear on the report card is 60.
• Leaners from Grade 1-12 are graded based on WW, PT and
QA every quarter.
• WW, PT and QA are given specific percentage weights that
vary according to the learning area.

HOW TO COMPUTE GRADES? (GRADE
1-12)
K TO 12 LEARNING ASSESSMENT

1. Grades in every component are added up that results to TOTAL

SCORE
2. TOTAL score is converted to PERCENTAGE SCORE using the formula

3. PERCENTAGE SCORE is converted to WEIGHTED SCORE for every

component
4. The weighted scores are added up that results to INITIAL GRADE.
5. INITIAL GRADE is transmuted to FINAL GRADE using transmutation
table and reflected on the REPORT CARD.

HOW ARE GRADES COMPUTED AT THE

END OF SCHOOL YEAR?

FOR KINDERGARTEN
- Checklists and Portfolios are used, no numerical grades.

FOR GRADE 1-10

- The average of the quarterly grades produces the FINAL GRADE.

- The GENERAL AVERAGE is computed by dividing the SUM of all FINAL GRADES

by the total number of learning areas. Each learning area has equal weight.

FOR GRADES 11 AND 12
K TO 12 LEARNING ASSESSMENT

• The two quarters determine the FINAL GRADE in a semester.

HOW IS THE LEARNER’S PROGRES
K TO 12 LEARNING ASSESSMENT

• The summary of learner’s progress is reported quarterly to parents
and guardians.

REMEDIAL CLASSES?
• Summative assessments are also given during remedial classes. These
are recorded, computed, weighted, and transmuted in the same way as
the quarterly grade. The final grade of the remedial class is the
REMEDIAL CLASS MARK (RCM). The FINAL GRADE at the end of the
school year and the RCM are averaged. This results in the RECOMPUTED
FINAL GRADE. If the RECOMPUTED FINAL GRADE is 75 or higher the
learner is promoted to the next grade level otherwise retained.
• The teacher of the remedial class issues the CERTIFICATE OF
RECOMPUTED FINAL GRADE, which is noted by the school principal. This
is submitted to the Division Office and must be attached to both F-137
and SF5.
