Earth is spherical in shape and is made up of land masses and bodies of water. Water forms a
greater part of Earth than land; thus, the Earth is also known as the “Watery Planet”.
What is an Ocean?

An ocean is a great body of water surrounding or separating continents. There are five oceans in
the world. These are:

The Atlantic Ocean


The Arctic Ocean
The Pacific Ocean
The Indian Ocean
The Southern Ocean
The Largest Ocean

Facts about the Pacific Ocean


- The Pacific Ocean is the largest ocean in the world.
- It covers more space than all the continents put together, and twice as much space as any other
ocean.
- The Pacific Ocean is notorious for bad weather. Some of the most destructive storms are
brewed in its waters.
What is a Sea?

A sea is a large body of water partly or fully enclosed by land. Some seas in the world
are:

The Caribbean sea


Black Sea
China Sea
Dead Sea
Bering Sea
What is a continent?

A continent is a large land mass surrounded by water. Land masses make up thirty percent of the
Earth’s surface.

There are seven continents in the world. Listed according to size from largest to smallest they are:
1) Asia 2) Africa 3) North America 4) South America 5) Antarctica

6) Europe 7) Australia
