People used to travel on

He used to wash dishes at
restaurants.
“Used to” is used to talk about
past habits, repeated actions or
things that do not happen any
more.
e.g. Peter used to eat a lot of sweets.
(=Peter doesn’t eat sweets any more)
e.g. I used to go jogging every morning.
(=I don’t go jogging every morning any more.)
Remember!!!

We can use the past simple instead


of “used to” with no difference in
meaning.

e.g. She used to live in town.


She lived in town.
We form questions and negations
with the auxiliary verb did/didn’t,
did/didn’t
the subject and the verb “use”
without –d.
• Did you use to play with your friends when
you were 5 years old?
• I didn’t use to drink milk when I was a
child.
