TOURISM

 Tourism is a major source of foreign

income of Egypt, both by tourists
themselves as major investments by
international hotel chains. By the nature of
tourism, it generates a significant number
of jobs, which include staff from tourism
agencies, hotels, manufacturing and
marketing of handicrafts, transport, among
others. We can identify three main areas
where tourist activity is focused.
The first:
 Cairo and its surroundings: the pyramids of Giza, with the Great
Sphinx (outside the city) are the main attractions, complemented
with the treasures of Cairo museum that exhibits the treasure of
Tutankhamen, and the bazaar Jan el-Khalili (Khan el Khalili).
Second:
 The south: with Luxor, Karnak, the Valley of the Kings, Abu Simbel and other
archaeological treasures, plus cruises on the Nile.
Third:
 The coast of the Red Sea and the southern part of the Sinai Peninsula: with sandy
shores, is a place famous for the richness and variety of underwater flora and fauna,
with a diving center renowned. The resort of Sharm el-Sheikh, is a landmark in the
area, which is served by many direct flights from Europe.
