Background of the study
 Background of the study is the part of any research
why the researchers do the research.
 The background of the study is basically a brief
overview of the material that is being researched by
including current information as well as previous
information, along with a little history of the topic. The
main reason that background study is written is to
provide a link between the topic and the thesis questions
that are written in it.
Research Design
 A research design is a framework or blueprint for
conducting the marketing research project. It details the
procedures necessary for obtaining the information
needed to structure or solve marketing research
problems. In simple words it is the general plan of how
you will go about your research.
According to Green and Tull
 A research is the specification of methods and
procedures for acquiring the information needed. It is
the overall operational pattern or framework of the
project that stipulates what information is to be
collected from which sources by what procedures.
Statistical treatment

 Statistical treatment of data is essential in order to

make use of the data in the right form. Raw data
collection is only one aspect of any experiment; the
organization of data is equally important so that
appropriate conclusions can be drawn. This is what
statistical treatment of data is all about.
 For example, in a survey regarding the election
of a Mayor, parameters like age, gender,
occupation, etc. would be important in
influencing the person's decision to vote for a
particular candidate. Therefore the data needs
to be treated in these reference frames.
