1. Before departure test steering. Procedure:
1) Main
2) Auxiliary
3) Remote systems
4) Steering positions on bridge
5) Emergency power
6) Rudder angle indicators
7) Remote system power failure alarms
8) Power unit failure alarms
9) Automatic isolating arrangements
2. Checks include:
10) Full movement of rudder
11) Visual inspection
12) Communication between bridge and steering compartment

3.1. Operating instructions, block diagram showing change-over procedures displayed on bridge and
in steering compartment.
3.2. Officers concerned be familiar with procedures.
4. Emergency steering drills at least once every three months include direct control in steering
compartment, communications power supplies.
5. Administration may waive requirements for ships on short voyages carry out tests once every
week.
