SUPREME COURT

• 1. the judges who sit on the supreme court ae appointed by the queen through
recommendation of the prime minister after they have had an approval of a
recommendation by the secretary of state for justice .
• 2. the supreme court is the final court appeal for all civil and criminal cases
within the united kingdom .
• 3. the supreme court was established in October 2009, its different to the
appellate committee of the house of lords as it helped establish complete
separation between the senior judges and the upper house of parliament. This
helped emphasise the independence of the law lords.

• 1. having a trial by jury is important because it helps provide a ‘fresh’ set of


eyes to a case as they mostly have no knowledge on the case they are in and
they use common sense to reach a verdict.
• 2. cases including criminal cases in crown court and civil cases that include the
following , liberal slander, false imprisonment, malicious prosecution and
fraud, all require a jury .
