 In March 2016, there were 736 new HIV Ab+
inidividuals reported
 89% of the cases were ASYMPTOMATIC at the time of
reporting.
 97 % were male. The median age was 28 yrs old.
More than half belong to the 25-34 year group while
27% were Youth aged 15-24

HIV/AIDS EPIDEMIC TRENDS IN THE
PHILIPPINES (Jan. 1984-Mar. 2016)
• The first case of HIV infection in the Ph was reported in
1984
• From Jan.1984 – Mar. 2016 there has been 32, 647 HIV
Ab+ cases
-91% (29, 805) were asymptomatic
-92% (30,136) were males and 2500 were
females
-51% (16,697) cases aged 25-34 yrs. old
while 27% (8, 738) were youth aged
15-24 yrs.old

Deaths Among People with HIV

• A total of 1, 165 deaths were reported from an. 1984


– Mar. 2016.
• 87% deaths were Males
• 47% (784) deaths belong to age group 25-34
• 30% (505) deaths belong to age group 35-39
• 14%(225) deaths belong to age group 15-24
• Sexual contact (95 %) was the most common mode
of HIV transmission
BLOOD UNITS CONFIRMED FOR HIV

In March 2016, 64 blood units were confirmed


positive for HIV by Research Institute for Tropical
Medicine. There is no available data yet on the total
number of blood units donated.
These were confirmed + blood units, not blood
donors. One donor can donate more than one blood
unit. HIV + blood donors are not in the HIV & AIDS
Registry unless they underwent voluntary counseling
and testing.
