Hacking
Hacking is the act of gaining illegal access to a computer system.
Hacking can lead to identity theft or gaining personal information. By
hacking data can be deleted, changed or corrupted. The risk of getting
hacked can be minimized by using firewalls, strong passwords and user
IDs and anti-hacking software.
Viruses
A virus is a malicious software program loaded onto a
user's computer without the user's knowledge and performs malicious
actions. It can self-replicate, inserting itself onto other programs or
files, infecting them in the process. A virus can cause a computer to
crash stop functioning normally or become unresponsive. It can also
delete or corrupt files/data. To minimize the risk of getting a virus install
anti-virus software, don’t use software from unknown sources and be
carful when opening emails or attachments from unknown senders.
Phishing
Phishing occurs when the creator sends out a legitimate looking
email and as soon as the receiver clicks on the link in the email or
attachment, the user is sent to a fake website. Phishing can let the
creator of the email gain personal data when they visit the fake website
this can lead to fraud and identity theft. To prevent phishing the user
should be careful when opening emails or attachment. Many ISPs filter
out phishing emails.
