Ward Al Saudi
Summary
Brian cannot determine weather the aluminium cover o
the plane is easy to cut or not in order to get the survival
pack out , so he bangs it. Then, he tries his hatchet, finding
out it works perfectly- he manages to make a hole inside
the planes’ side. While trying to enlarge it the hatchet fell
and Brian felt it bumping into his foot. In great frustration,
he thought, without the hatchet I have no food no fire no
life, so he had no choice but to bring it back . Brian plunged
into the water about 7 to 8 feet and couldn’t reach the
bottom where the hatchet lied. He tried again, but this
time he went very deep into the water.
He caught the hatchet and barely made it up to catch
some air and rested for a bit on the raft. Then this time,
carefully, he enlarged the hole even more to fit his body
and dives into the wreck to catch the survival bag. On his
way out of the lake he sights the dead pilots’ body badly
decomposed. Brian vomits and almost drowned .
Reminding us not to take a dip into the water. Finally, he
got out of the water and placed the survival bag on the
shore but fell asleep before opening it and seeing what is
inside of it.
Development and connections between his
mind and body
• He has learned throughout the course of the
novel that survival depends upon the strength
of the mind more than the strength of the
body. The body will follow the lead of a strong
and determined mind.
Compression between his school
and the woods
• ‘In the deep end of the gym pool at the school
he had no trouble getting to the bottom and
that was, he was pretty sure, about eleven
feet.' “Here it was impossible to know the
exact depth.”
