DNA REPLICATION

Replication
 Is the process by which a double- straded DNA
molecule is copied to produce two Identical DNA
molecule.
 DNA replication is one of the most basic processes
that occurs within a cell.
 Basis for inheritance.
James Watson and Francis Crick
HELICASE
- seperates DNA strands producing replication fork with 2 template
strands.
SSB’s (Single Strand Binding Protein)
- stabilzes strands annealing
PRIMASE
-creates RNA primer, required to start replication
DNA POLYMERASE
- binds primer, builds from there
RNA H ( DNA POL I)
- removes primer esp important on logging strand
DNA LIGASE
- Joins Okazak, fragments

 The first step in DNA replication
is to ‘unzip’ the double helix
structure of the DNA
 During separation, the two strands of the DNA
double helix uncoil at a specific location called
the origin. Several enzymes and proteins then
work together to prepare, or prime, the strands for
duplication.
 Finally, a special enzyme called DNA
polymerase organizes the assembly of
the new DNA strands
 Why does DNA replicated
happens?
 Your body is constantly making
new cells through cell division.
Therefore, cells needs a way of
copying the DNA so that each
new cell has the same genetic
information.
