ORIGINS OF HOLLAND
• -The first inhabitants of the Dutch territory were
settlers who came from the northern glaciers and
were looking for a place to live, a prosperous
place to start a new. The fishermen, hunters, and
farmers were the ones who began to form this
town, where small houses began to be created
and with this, new towns to live in.
• Holland was conquered by the Roman Empire by order of Julius
Caesar, as it was located in a prosperous place for agriculture
and fishing and an excellent strategic site for maritime trade.
Towns and roads for trade were created under the orders of the
Roman Empire; the Romans withdrew from the Netherlands
when their Empire collapsed.
• Spain colonized Holland and until 1581
declared its independence from Spain. In 1588
they formed the Republic of the Seven United
Netherlands. However, Holland became a
prosperous trading nation.
