• Whom dalam kalimat tanya
(interrogative) digunakan untuk untuk
menanyakan object kalimat. Whomtidak
pernah digunakan untuk menggantikan
subject kalimat

The She/He-Him/Her Method
• 1. Replace the Who or Whom in a sentence
with she or her and see if it’s grammatically
correct.
• Choose Who if the personal pronoun is in the
subjective case: I, we, he, she, it, they
• Choose Whom if the personal pronoun is in
the objective case: me, us, him, her, them
Examples
• Who/Whom wrote the letter?
• Replace who with she:
• She wrote the letter
• Replace whom with her:
• Her wrote the letter.
• The correct pronoun is Who.
• She works in the sentence.

Whom:

So, we know that whom is correct.

or her.

Again, plug in she and her:
• Answer: I asked whom they plan to

• Turn the sentence around: They plan to
send her to the new island. Or, they
plan to send she to the new island.
• So, her corresponds with whom.
• They are not sure who/whom will be
making the trip. What is the answer?
Keep going!
• They are not sure who/whom will be
making the trip.
• Again, reconstruct the sentence:
Her will be making the trip.
• She will be making the trip.
• Therefore, the sentence reads:
• They are not sure who will be making
the trip.

WHICH
Recognize an adjective clause when you see one.
An adjective clause—also called an adjectival or relative clause—
will meet three requirements:

• First, it will contain a subject and verb.


• Next, it will begin with a relative
pronoun [who,whom, whose, that, or which] or a relative
adverb [when, where, or why].
• Finally, it will function as an adjective, answering the
questions What kind? How many? or Which one?
