medium such as radio, television
and social media about beauty
products and promoting an
unrealistic beauty standard of
Malaysian increase significantly.
 Multiple up and coming
millionaires from beauty product
business indicate the high demand
of the products.
 Most of them don’t even have a
proper clinical certificates but still
consumed show us how desperate
some people to achieve the beauty
standard.
 Most of the time the media convincing
people that having fairer skin and thinner
body considered as beautiful.
 A research by Okereke J. N. and
colleagues on Possible Health Implications
Associated with Cosmetics stated that it is
unhealthy to force the consumption of
beauty products.
 Recent incident at the local singing contest
(Gegar Veganza) show us that the media
despise individuals that have dark
complexion and forcing people onto
consuming the products promoted .
Why is it
wrong ?
According to a research by Calogero, Rachel & Boroughs and etc. (2007) to achieve
expectation of certain beauty standard can possibly cause various health issues mentally
and physically.

Physically

 In order to attain certain looks some people consume beauty product in excessive amounts
that can harm their physical health.

Most cosmetic products contain hazardous chemicals that can affect human
body due to the body reacting towards the chemical substance and sometimes
rejecting the products consumed and lead to serious injuries on main body
organ such as liver and cause malfunction as stated by Okereke J. N. and etc.
• A survey by Etcoff, Orbach, Scott, & D’Agostino, (2004.) of 3,300 girls and women
across 10 countries, 90 per cent of all women aged 15 to 64 worldwide want to change
at least one aspect of their physical appearance, with body weight ranking the highest.

 A study by Gupta and etc.  for Journal of Eating Disorder surveyed all individuals that suffer from
eating disorder due to their lack of confidence of their appearance.
 Example of an extreme disorder is bullimia nervosa .
