 DO NOT TOUCH ENDS OF FRACTURED RAILS WITH BARE HANDS.

 DO NOT USE STEEL MEASURING TAPES.

 DO NOT SLEW TRACK WITHOUT THE KNOWLEDGE OF TRACTION STAFF.

 DO NOT STACK RAILS PARALLEL TO TRACK SO AS TO FORM CONTINUOUS

PATH. THEY WILL CARRY HEAVY INDUCED CURRENTS

6
SAFETY PRECAUTIONS TO BE TAKEN
ON TRD SIDE
• LOCO / RUNNIGN STAFF:
DO’s:
 OBSERVE CAUTION ORDERS AND SIGNALS EXHIBITED BY OHE STAFF
WORKING AT SITE.
 EXERCISE GREAT CARE WITH CRANE WORKING IN ELECTRIFIED AREA..
 ALL THE DRIVERS TO WHISTLE FREELY ONE KILOMETRE FROM THE REAR
OF THE WORKSPOT WHERE OHE STAFF ARE WORKING.
 KEEP CONTACT WITH TPC DURING TRACTION POWER SUPPLY FAILURE.
 AT NEUTRAL SECTIONS OBEY THE THE WARNING BOARDS OF“TRIP DJ”,&
“CLOSE DJ” SIGNS DISPLAYED.
 WHENEVER YOU ARE DIRECTED “LOWER PANTO”, “RAISE PANTO”
CAUTION ORDER, BE ALERT AND OBEY THE SAME METICULOUSLY.

• Don’ts:
 DO NOT CLIMB ON THE BOILER SHELL / DIESEL ENGINE.

 DO NOT DIRECT WATER JET TOWARDS THE OHE.

 DO NOT ATTACH ANY DECORATIVE / EXTENSION PIECES TO THE LOCO

ROOF

 BE ALERT AND DO NOT ENTER SECTION WITH ELECTRIC LOCO WHENEVER

CAUTION UNWIRED TURNOUT BOARDS ARE EXHIBITED

8
SAFETY PRECAUTIONS TO BE TAKEN
ON TRD SIDE
• FOR OHE STAFF:
 USE ALWAYS HELMETS / SAFETY BELTS WHILE WORKING.
 REMEMBER ALWAYS THAT OHE WIRES ARE UNDER
MECHANICAL TENSION
 ENSURE PROPER EARTHING OF DISCHARGE RODS.
 HOLD LADDERS / LADDER TROLLIES FIRMLY WHILE
WORKING.
 DO NOT STAND ON INSULATORS.
 DO NOT CARRY HEAVY MATERIALS ON LADDER TROLLIES.
 DO NOT SIT OR STAND UNDER THE COUNTER WEIGHT
ASSSEMBLIES.

9
 DO NOT USE LADDER TROLLEY AS A TEMPORARY EARTHING DEVICE. DO
NOT STABLE LADDER TROLLIES IN SIDING & SHUNTING NECK.

 DO NOT DRIVE TOWER CAR BEYOND POWER BLOCK WORKING LIMIT BOARD.

 KEEP FIRST AID BOX CONTENTS STOCKED IN TOWER CAR.

 USE ALWAYS TESTED AND PROPER TOOLS.

 SECURE THE LADEER TROLLY PROPERLY AFTER WORK IS COMPLETED.

 DO NOT THROW TOOLS / MATERIALS FROM TOP.

 DO NOT KEEP LADDER TROLLIES IN VERTICAL POSITION CLOSE TO

RUNNING TRACK.

10
SAFTEY PRECAUTIONS TO BE TAKEN
WHILE WORKING ON OHE
 No work shall be done above or with-in distance of 2 meters from the live OHE
without a “permit to work”.

 Inductive effects, occur on large metallic structures such as fencing, structural steel
of platforms running parallel to the track. They will have to be earthed suitably to
afford safety.

 Each working party shall be protected by at least two independent earths, one on
each side of a working party.

 If the distance between the working parties exceeds 1000 meters, intermediate earth
shall be provided in such a manner,to ensure that the distance between two earths,
does not exceed 1000 meters.

 Men shall be posted on both sides of the site of work to warn the working party of
any approaching train on the same track or adjacent track.

 For providing earth on the OHE, fix the earthing clamp securely to a mast at least one
span away after making sure that the mast to earth rail bond of this mast is intact.
 Earthing clamps should always be fixed to the traction rail or mast first and then the
top clamp should be hooked to the OHE

11
 For removing the Earthing, first remove the hook on the OHE and
then the clamp fixed to the rail or mast.
 Two sections of conductors or ends of conductors, which may
have snapped, should be separately earthed at two points after
switching off supply to both parts of the OHE. This precaution
should also be observed when working or in the vicinity of a
sectioning point and cut in insulators.
 Neutral sections should be treated as live equipment and earthed
separately at two points on either side of the work party before
commencing work.
 When work is to be carried out on an isolator, both sides of the
isolator should be earthed at two points.
 No fallen wires shall be touched unless power is switched off and
the wire suitably earthed.
 In electrified track, steel tape or metallic tape should not be used.
 All the staff should wear helmets to protect their heads against
any tool or equipment, which may drop down accidentally.

12
 Staff should protect themselves against an inadvertent fall by
wearing a safety belt .

 Ropes used with ladders should be cotton or jute. Use of metallic

ropes is prohibited. A ladder should be held by one person on the
ground to prevent slipping, while the top end should be tied to the
supporting structure or conductor to keep it in position and prevent
sliding .

 Ladders should never be allowed to fall on or rest against the

contact wire.

 More than one person shall not normally be allowed on a ladder as

far as possible.

 Climbing on a ladder with wet or slippery footwear is forbidden.

 A rope should be used to pass tools or any equipment to the men

working on a ladder.

 No one should stand directly below a work spot under a ladder.

13
 .

 It is important that staff who ask for power block should know the
section of OHE where shutdown is required.

 Whenever there is a doubt in the description, the person asking for

power block shall state clearly the track and OHE structure numbers
between which work is to be done.

 All messages relating to shutdown and restoration of power supply,

permits to work, etc. issued over the telephone shall invariably be
supported by exchange of private numbers and repeated twice.

 Do not tie the rope on rail without taking traffic block.

 It is necessary to take traffic block while working on tunnels or

bridges.
