INTRODUCTION

Glass partitions or walls are high-quality, non-load-bearing panes

of glass that function as room dividers. Glass partition walls are
great for opening up a room and creating open, airy work
environments. Partition wall systems are typically full glass
(ceiling to wall) partitions. Aluminium frames or other mounting
hardware hold these systems in place.
As a building material, this interior glass allows designers and
architects to divide a room, without sacrificing floor space and
light diffusion. Glass partition walls are ideal for creating
comfortable and practical office working environments. When you
allow natural light to flow into a given space, it changes how
shapes, colours, patterns, textures and people interact.

 ALUMINIUM FRAMED GLASS PARTITION WALLS
These fully framed systems are best suited for use in offices and retail
spaces. Partition walls also have residential applications as well.  A
framed partition wall system creates rooms and separates work areas.

MATERIAL COMPOSITION

This light-weight material lends sufficient rigidity and prevents against

corrosion. The surface of the aluminium framing is sometimes finished
with natural anodization or powder coated. Slimmer profile systems are
yet another partition solution to consider .Each glass pane is fixed in the
framed module with a special transparent silicon sealing, making the
transition from glass to aluminium nearly invisible.

An aluminium profiled partition wall system may include typical

aluminium framed hinged doors or sliding doors with a bottom guide
track.

 FULL GLASS PARTITION WALLS

These are full floor to ceiling glass installations. Given their

minimum profile, full glass partition walls leave nearly the
entire glass wall area free. These systems create the most airy of
working environments.

Most all systems utilize glass and aluminium mounting hardware.

DOORS AND MOUNTING HARDWARE

Full glass partition system may be combined with hinged or sliding

doors by using specialized hardware. To ensure safety, glass panes are
always tempered and the visible edges are polished. The vertical joint
remaining between the two glass panes is filled with transparent silicon
or acrylic foam tape to ensure rigidity and sound resistance.

 TYPES
1. PATTERNED OR TEXTURED GLASS
As the name suggests, patterned glass has a decorative design
embossed on its surface. It could be a colourful geometric
pattern, or just a plain texture. It is most useful in spaces which
require privacy but also need sufficient light transmission. The
texture on the glass surface prevents a clear view of the object
when seen through the glass. It has its applications in
conference rooms, foyers, restaurants, shower cubes, and
windows
2. TINTED GLASS
Tinted glass is manufactured by adding metal oxides to float
glass. Different metal oxides when mixed with float glass,
render different colours to it. There is not much change in the
elementary properties of the glass, except the solar
transmission. Due to its tint it prevents heat transmission and
absorbs solar energy. This is not ideal glass if you desire to
transmit light since it hinders with light transmission.

3. ACOUSTIC GLASS
This type of glass has acoustic properties and thus is most suitable
in areas with high noise pollution. The glass has a double glazed
arrangement of which the inner layer damps out any belligerent
noises. It absorbs and weakens noises thus reducing the decibels
heard by humans. Acoustic glass finds its application in diverse
spaces like office space, conference rooms, music studios,
hospitals, libraries, residential houses and retail spaces.
4. CLEAR GLASS
Clear glass is the most common type of glass seen in interior
spaces. It is colorless and has blue or green colored edge due
to the presence of iron oxides. It is not as strong as laminated
glass. It allows almost 80-90% of the visible light to pass
through. It can be used in multiple locations in the house.

 5. SATIN GLASS
Satin glass has satin finish as the name suggests. It is chemically
treated to give the desired finish on the surface. It is a good material
for decorative purposes. It can also be used as a partition wall in
retail spaces or hotels where one requires privacy as it blurs the
view. Due to this property it can be utilized in fabricating a door in
association with another material such as wood. Satin glass is a low
maintenance product as it prevents the dust from sticking on to its
surface. The finger marks don’t get printed on the skin of stained
glass unlike another glasses.
6. FROSTED GLASS 
In technical terms, frosted glass is a clear sheet of glass that is
turned opaque through the process of sandblasting or acid
etching. Because of light scattering during transmission, the glass
comes out as translucent, obscuring visibility even as it transmits
light.
1. Permanent frosting, achieved by painting lead and oil.
2. Temporary frosting where a piece of marble is first dipped
into glass cutter’s sharp sand, is subsequently
moistened with water and rubbed over glass.
3. Ultra Ultra-fine frosting, achieved by applying a warm
mixture of Epsom salt and gum Arabic.

TECHNOLOGICAL ADVANCEMENTS

PRIVACY GLASS
This technology will switch the glass from transparent to an opaque translucent
state with the simple flip of a switch, tap of an app, or wave of a hand.  The
technology makes available a dynamic space that can be both private and open.

PDLC (Polymer Dispersed Liquid Crystal) is a medium whose light scattering

power is adjustable through applying an electric field. In their natural (uncharged)
state, the PDLC droplets randomly align.

• THE PRINCIPAL
When the power is off the liquid crystal molecules are randomly oriented
and will scatter incidental light. This renders the Switchable Privacy
Glass panel opaque.
When an electric current is applied, the liquid crystal molecules line up,
the incidental light passes through, and the privacy glass becomes clear.
Privacy Glass is a laminated glass. The laminated material within is
Liquid Crystal Privacy Film, which responds to an electrical current.
When electricity is applied to the film via the wiring, the liquid crystals
align and the glass instantly becomes clear.  When the power is turned
off, the liquid crystals return to their normal scattered positions rendering
the glass an opaque translucent.
