SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY
The great transformations of the Industrial Revolution had their origin in the United
Kingdom.
Since its foundation, the United Kingdom has been at the forefront of scientific and
technological advances, as well as in research and development. The Royal Society is
the oldest scientific society in the United Kingdom, and one of the oldest in the world.
During its more than 300 years of history, it has been responsible for promoting,
protecting and disseminating knowledge and science in the country and throughout
the world. Within this society participated several scientists who contributed to the
advancement of their respective areas of knowledge; These include: Robert Boyle,
John Wallis, Isaac Newton, Robert Hooke, Thomas Willis, among others.

THE BEATLES
From the 16th century until 1949 the United Kingdom expanded through
colonization and treaties and reached more than 29 million km2.
The subjects of the British crown totaled more than 450 million people, that is, a
quarter of the world's population at that time. It was the most extensive empire in
history.
However, since the beginning of the twentieth century anti-colonial processes began
in various dominated territories. World War II weakened the United Kingdom
economically and militarily, which accelerated the process of decolonization.
Currently the United Kingdom has only 14 overseas territories, mostly small islands
with small populations.

PHILOSOPHY
The United Kingdom is famous for the tradition of "British empiricism," a branch of
the philosophy of knowledge that indicates that the only valid knowledge is that
which is proven by experience; and of the "Scottish Philosophy," which is sometimes
called "the Scottish school of common sense.“
The most famous philosophers of British empiricism are: John Locke, George
Berkeley and David Hume, while Dugald Stewart, Thomas Reid and William Hamilton
were the main exponents of the Scottish school of common sense. Britain is also
notable for a theory of moral philosophy, utilitarianism, first used by Jeremy
Bentham and later by John Stuart Mill, in his homonymous work Utilitarianism. Other
eminent philosophers from the United Kingdom and the states that preceded it
include Duns Scoto, John Lilburne, Mary Wollstonecraft, Francis Bacon, Adam Smith,
Thomas Hobbes, William of Ockham, Bertrand Russell and Alfred Jules Yesterday.
• After made this activity I learned about how many things are
related to the English culture, this maybe is related to the
imperialism expansion that this country had, and the
presence of the soldiers in so many other country's, but
anyways the legacy and the influence of this country has
been good for the mankind progress
