Close your eyes and imagine its
Thanksgiving Day. What are you
doing? What do you smell? What
do you hear? What do you see?

Thanksgiving celebration?! Isn’t Thanksgiving all
about the pilgrims?!

Did you see football when you closed your eyes? Do
you play or watch football on Thanksgiving? Did the

Did you know that football
didn’t become a Thanksgiving
tradition until the 1870s, nearly
10 years after Thanksgiving
became a national holiday.

Thanksgiving? Where do you think parades came
from?

Parades came along with football.
People would caravan to the games
and make lots of noise. Eventually
these turned into big parades such
as the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade.

None? Are you sure?
Why not? Why don’t other
countries celebrate our
Thanksgiving?
Do you think that other
countries have holidays that
only they celebrate? Can you
name some?
Chinese New Year, Canada’s
Boxing Day, Bastille Day in
France, Three King’s Day in
Mexico, and All Saints Day in
Peru. Do you celebrate these?
Why not?
Where could you look to find
more information on holidays
that you don’t know much
about?
