QUESTIONS SHORT ANSWERS

Have I got? Yes, he / she / it has.


Has he / she / it got? No, he / she / it hasn’t.
Have we / you / they got? Yes, we / you / they have.
No, we / you / they haven’t.

 In short answers, we do not use got.


 We use the verb have got to show that something belongs to somebody.
Example: She has got a new computer. They have got a beautiful garden.
 We use the verb have got to describe people, animals or things:
Example: Mary has got long curly hair and blue eyes. My dog has got brown fur.
 We use the verb have got to talk about relationships:
Example: I’ve got many friends. She has got two brothers.

THE VERB CAN

 The verb can is used to express ability.


Example: I can run. You can swim. She can sing. They can write.

 Can has got the same form in all persons.


AFFIRMATIVE NEGATIVE > CANNOT / CAN’T

We / You / They can dance. We / You / They cannot / can’t speak Japanese.

COMPARISON OF ADJECTIVES – THE COMPARATIVE FORM

 We can use adjectives to compare people, things, animals, places, buildings, etc.

Example:

Jim is taller than Mary.

My blue ball is bigger than the green one. Athens is more crowded than Bucharest.

This new password is stronger than the old one. London Eye is more popular than Tate Gallery.
