during COVID-19 Pandemic
Introduction/Background
• COVID 19 has caused a massive disruption in education by far in history
which further compromised the educational system (United Nations, 2020).

• The virus's high transmissibility made the epidemic in China turn into a
global pandemic (Altakarli, 2020).
• Multiple educational solutions have been deployed to facilitate the
continuity of education of future nurses (Morcillo et.al, 2020).

• Quarantine lockdowns were implemented (Pajaron, 2020).


• Teachers and students had to utilize electronic devices and internet
connection to access various learning platforms such as Canvas, Zoom and
Skype (Head Foundation, 2020).
• No Vaccine, No Face to face. Until vaccine is available, online modalities
will be used (DepEd Philippines, 2020).
Introduction/Background
• Half of the City's university student population of about 53,000 are from other towns,
including Pangasinan and Metro Manila, where a high rate of infection has been
recorded( Cabreza,2020).
• "Social learners” (Borstoff and Lowe 2007)
• Preferring to do written activities online rather than discussions face-to-face.
(Kemp, N., & Grieve, R. 2014)
• Online education increased accessibility to educational materials and personalized
instruction.(Mersal, F.A., & Mersal, A.N. 2014)

• Intrinsic motivational and positive self-evaluation showed more positive emotions


(Todorova, M., & Karamanska, D., 2015).
• Video conferencing can offer students to experience and analyze sociocultural
learning and interactions within the framework of socio-cultural theory
(Candarli et.al, 2020).
Thesis
 Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has led
all nursing students (third year nursing students) to
experience several challenges and opportunities on
the way they acquire knowledge in the new normal
of learning. Therefore the students preferred video
conferencing platforms must be determined and
explored to identify and consider the utilization of
appropriate and suitable video applications in
online education.
Research Gap
• Gaps between the usefulness of online
education/learning management system and student
satisfaction (Ruffalo, 2018).
• Information gap of student satisfaction conducive
to a good learning environment (Ruffalo, 2018).
• Limited Research on Intrinsic Motivation of
Students during Online Classes
( Todorova & Karamanska, 2015).
Objective/s
 This study primarily aims to determine the
preferred video conferencing platform/s among
third year nursing students of the University of the
Cordilleras in Baguio City, towards the
consideration of the preferences of the learners
towards a more effective and interactive teaching
and learning with the utilization of the emerging
online education modalities and platforms.

education utilized by third year nursing students?
2.What is the level of preference on the video conferencing platform/s for
online education among third year nursing students?
3.Is there a significant difference on the level of preference of the video
conferencing platform/s for online education among third year nursing students
according to:

4. What are the factors that affect the preference of third year nursing students on
the video conferencing platform/s for online education?
Methodology
 Research Design and Instruments

Design: Mixed-Method Research, Quantitative for the


questionnaire (Problems 1-3) and Qualitative for the interview guide
(Problem 4).
Methodology
 Population of the Study and Sampling

Respondents: Third year Nursing Students of the


University of the Cordilleras
Sampling: Snowball (Network) a student from each section
was chosen to pass the survey questionnaire to their other classmates
for answering.
Data Gathering Instrument and
Treatment of Data
Data Gathering Instrument: Questionnaire and Interview Guide in
conformity with the new normal way of gathering data
and information

Treatment of Data: Ranking for the first problem;


Descriptive statistics specifically obtaining the Mean for the 2nd problem
and Inferential statistics specifically Chi-Square for the 3rd problem.
Whereas coding and thematic analysis will be done for the 4thproblem.
