What is Discourse Analysis?
is a collection of methods for
studying language in action,
looking at text in relation to the
social context in which they are
used, but this broad definition
has been interpreted in various
ways across the social
sciences.
What is GENRE?
Refers to the type and
structure of language typically
used for a particular purpose
in a particular context.
Is a social action and a speech
event that has communicative
goal shared by the members
of a particular discourse.
Genre is distinctive part of culture
that has purpose and steps, as well
as language features which has
relationship to the purpose, steps
and the distinctive culture that the
definitions should be interpreted
by referring to the social and
cultural context in which the
context exist.
Genre: in literary studies,
films, anthropology, study of
folklore, music.
In applied linguistics, three
approaches to genre:
- The ESP Approach
- The New Rhetoric Approach
- The functional-systemic Approach
