Object 1:Black bear Taxidermy Mount Reason for the object in relation to character:
This tough, black, fierce and glaring taxi dermic
bear reminds of a quick-tempered, black, fiery and a bossy hardworking maid Minny Jackson, who took special care while cleaning a giant taxi dermic bear at her employer Celia's home. While cleaning the bear she imagined that the object is glaring at her as she said, "I dust the shelves in the hunting room, vacuum the bear while he stares at me like I'm a snack. 'Just you and me today,' I tell him" (chapter 10). This demonstrates Minny's feeling that she is constantly being watched as she goes about her work. Minny was a strong lady but when it came to
her home life, her character flipped upside down. She was mercilessly beaten by her violent husband Leroy with a belt. As quoted in chapter 32 Minny said, One time I asked him, “Why? Why are you hitting me?” He leaned down and looked me right in the face.
“If I didn’t hit you, Minny, who knows what
you become.” I was trapped in the corner of the bedroom like a dog. He was beating me with his belt. It was the first time I’d ever really thought about it. Who knows what I could become, if Leroy would stop goddamn hitting me. Image Reference : Mark bell sling shot https://markbellslingshot.com/products/str ong-belt
