SEXUAL DISORDER

In ICD10 gender identity disorder, disorders of sexual


preference and sexual development and orientation are
listed under disorders of adult personality disorder.
CLASSIFICATION

1. Gender identity disorders


2. Psychological and behavioural disorders
associated with sexual development and
maturation.
3. Disorder of sexual preference
4. Sexual dysfunction.
1. GENDER IDENTITY DISORDER(F6)

The sense of one’s masculinity or femininity is


disturbed. These include –
A.Transsexualism
B.Gender identity disorder of childhood
C.Dual – role transvestism
D.intersexuality
A. TRANSSEXUALISM

• Persistent and significant sense of discomfort


regarding one’s anatomic sex and a feeling.
• The person will be preoccupied with the wish to
get rid of one’s genitals and secondary sex
characteristics and to adopt the sex characteristics
of the other sex.
B. GENDER IDENTITY DISORDER IN
CHILDHOOD

This is a disorder similar to transsexualism , with a


early age of onset.
C. DUAL – ROLE TRANSVESTISM

• Wearing clothes of the opposite sex in order


to enjoy to temporary experience of
membership of the opposite sex but without
any desire for permanent sex change.
D. INTERSEXUALITY :

The patient have gross anatomical or


physiological features of the other sex.
For example : pseudohermaphroditism ,
turner’s syndrome
TREATMENT

• Counselling to help the individual reconcile


with the anatomic sex.
• Sec change to the desired gender [ sex
reassignment surgery in selected case.]
2. PSYCHOLOGICAL AND BEHAVIOURAL DISORDERS
ASSOCIATED WITH SEXUAL DEVELOPMENT AND MATURATION.

Homosexuality : relationship maintained


between persons of the same sex. For
female used term ‘lesbian’ and for male
used term ‘ gay’.
TREATMENT

• Behaviour therapy
• Supportive therapy
• Psychoanalytic psychotherapy
3. DISORDER OF SEXUAL PREFERENCE OR
PARAPHILIAS
• In paraphilias sexual arousal occurs persistently in response to objects.
• Which are not a part of normal sexual arousal.
• These are following :
a. Fetishism : sexual arousal occurs with non living object but associated with
human body .
b. Zoophilia : involving in sexual activity with animals .
c. Voyeurism : tendency to observe naked body and sexual activity.
d. Sexual sadism : to suffering or injury of the sexual partner.
4. SEXUAL DYSFUNCTION ( F5)
It is disturbance in the sexual response cycle due to organic cause :
a. Frigidity : absence of desire for sexual activity.
b. Impotence : inability to have or sustain penile erection till the
completion of satisfactory sexual activity.
c. Premature ejaculation : ejaculation before the completion of
satisfactory sexual activity for both partner.
d. Non – organic vaginismus : an involuntary spasm of lower 1/3rd of
vagina , interfering with sexual activity.
e. Non – organic dyspareunia : pain in the genital area of either male or
female during sexual activity.
TREATMENT
• Psychoanalysis
• Hypnosis
• Group psychotherapy
• Behaviour therapy
