ENGLISH EDUCATION STUDY PROGRAM

ENGLISH DEPARTMENT
FACULTY OF LANGUAGE AND ART
UNIVERSITAS NEGERI PADANG
Introduction

a. The new scholars give a significant contribution

in their real world.
b. There are some aspects must be mastered by the
candidate of English language teacher before
he/she becomes the “Real English Language
Teacher”.
The Aim of Study

● Highlighting that there is much more to being an English

language teacher than simply ‘knowing’ the language.
● Exploring the important knowledge should be mastered by
the scholar in conducting the teaching and learning process
Content knowledge

a. The body of knowledge and information that teachers

teach and that students are expected to learn in a given
subject or content area, such as English language arts,
mathematics, science, or social studies.
b. The facts, concepts, theories, and principles that are
taught and learned in specific academic courses, rather
than to related skills—such as reading, writing, or
researching—that students also learn in school.
Pedagogical content knowledge

a. The knowledge that provides a basis for language

teaching.
b. Shulman defined pedagogical content knowledge as
teachers’ interpretations and transformations of subject-
matter knowledge in the context of facilitating student
learning.
Disciplinary content knowledge

a. Hill & Ball (2004) refer to this kind of knowledge as "common

knowledge of content;" Ferrini-Mundy and colleagues (Ferrini-Mundy,
Floden, McCrory, Burrill, & Sandow, 2005) call it "core content
knowledge.“
b. The knowledge held by all professionals who use science or
mathematics in their work. This kind of knowledge is not unique to
teachers, but it definitely has important connections to teaching.
Conclusion

a. The important knowledge that should be

mastered well by the language teachers can
be described by giving a smart figure.
b. There is much more to being an English
teacher than knowing English.
