About the Training

Spoken Tutorial is an audio-video tool used to teach Open Source Software

in an interactive manner
1. Students learn on their own – listen, solve questions, practice, take test
when ready
2. College Faculty select the courses, arrange the batches and motivate the
students
3. There is no theory, only the practical lab training of the topics is provided
4. It is well known that listening is always better than reading
Dear Kannan,
This semester I taught our introductory programming course (In C)
SI-415.
I introduced the students to the Spoken Tutorials on C and used some
of them in class (for example on functions, pointers etc.). The
students also took the
test......................................................................................
I highly recommend Spoken Tutorials as a resource for a first course
in C.
Regards,
Murali

Governments (Central & State) AND e-Governance Policy
– FOSS recommended

Government of India shall endeavor to adopt Open Source Software in all e-Governance systems
implemented by various Government organizations, as a preferred option in comparison to Closed
Source Software," said the policy statement, put on the website of the Department of Electronics
and Information Technology (DEITy).
However, the new policy clearly states that "All Government Organizations, while implementing
e-Governance applications and systems must include a specific requirement in Request for
Proposal (RFP) for all suppliers to consider open source software (OSS) along with closed source
software while responding.
Suppliers shall provide justification for exclusion of  FOSS in their response, as the case may
be."........Economic Times, 2015 March 29th

“Department of IT, Bihar is promoting E-Literacy through various IT programs and ICT initiatives to develop IT infrastructure of the
state and improve employment opportunities, which is in line with the ICT vision of the state.

The move is also in line with several governments across the world which prefer open source and
open standards for development of their applications and services.
The United States, United Kingdom and several countries in the European Union also prefer use
of open source over proprietary software. The Indian government has already upped its use of
open source technology. Its crowd sourcing platform MyGov.in is a case in point, which has been
developed entirely on open source technology.
