Wind
Wind

 It is air that moves.


 It is said the air is in motion.
 We cannot see wind.
 We can feel it.
 We can see how it moves things e.g clothes flap on the line as they dry.
 We hear it when it moves through tree branches, it can rustle or whistle
through the branches.
Wind has Direction

 Wind direction changes from time to time.

Proof
 Smoke from a fire shows us where the wind blows to.
 A handful of dry sand falling from a raised hand shows us where the wind is
blowing to.
 Tree branches, clothes on a line or a flag also show where the wind is blowing
to.
Compass

 It is an instrument that shows direction.


 It uses cardinal points; North, East, South and West (N.E.W.S)

 An arrow always points to the true magnetic North.


Wind vane

 It is an instrument to measure wind direction.


 The arrow points to where the wind is from.
 The heavy part shows where the wind is going to. (N.E.W.S)

Effects of Wind on the Environment

 Wind can blow or carry away tiny soil particles.


 Strong winds can destroy houses and crops.
 Blowing wind can help spread seeds of some plants.
 Soil dust can make drinking water dirty.
 Wind can move rain clouds.
Recording weather daily

 It helps us to know if it will be hot, cold, cloudy, rainy or windy.


 We dress properly for the weather.
 Farmers Need to know when to start planting crops.
 Pilots, drivers need to keep us safe as we travel.
