The air cleaner has been

changed from the
conventional end face seal
type to a radial seal type to
prevent the entry of dust on
the clean side caused by
deformation of these parts.
In addition, a 5-stage
display type air cleaner
clogging sensor is provided
to give accurate information
about the timing for
cleaning.

Q: Should you change air filters by miles or hours?

A: Air filters should be changed only by engine
manufacturer's recommendations on air restriction as
measured by an air restriction gauge.

Q: Will air filter efficiency change during the filter's

life?
A: Air filter efficiency changes over time. Air filters are
least efficient when new; dirt buildup on the outside of
the filter makes it more efficient over time.

Q: How often should I change my safety element?

A: Safety or inner elements should be changed every

third change of the primary element. Safety filters
should not be disturbed until this interval has been
reached.
Q: What is Komatsu's recommended air filter change
interval?
A: Komatsu recommends changing the air filter once
you have reached 80% of the engine air restriction
limit. This ensures minimum downtime during filter
change intervals.

Q: What is a Radial Seal air filter?

A: Radial Seal is an air filter that is sealed radially at

the inner diameter. Conventional air filters generally
have gaskets glued on a metal endplate and seal
when the gasket is compressed against the air
housing. The radial seal, made from polyurethane, is
molded as part of the endplate. The sealing occurs by
pushing the air filter into the corresponding air
housing. In the air housing, a conical adapter fits on
the air outlet (clean air side) of the housing.

Q: What is the micron rating of Komatsu’s air filters?

A: Air filters are measured on an efficiency basis over
a wide range of particle sizes. Micron ratings do not
apply to air filters.
