FUNCTIONS OF TEETH
The human teeth have three
(3) very important functions:
1. Gives shape to the face.
2. Helps with making sounds
and speech
3. Helps with chewing and
crushing food.
SETS OF TEETH
Sets of Teeth
In the lifetime of a human being, there are two
sets of teeth:
1. Temporary (Milk) Teeth
2. Permanent (adult) Teeth
There are 20 temporary teeth and 32
permanent teeth. There difference in
number is because there are no molars in the
temporary set of teeth.

TYPES OF TEETH
There are four (4) types of
teeth:
1. Incisors (8)
2. Canines (4)
3. Premolars (8)
4. Molars (12)
INCISORS
Flat
used for biting.
There are a total of 8 incisors
CANINES
sharp
used for ripping and tearing food.
There are a total of 4 canines
PREMOLARS
Small, thick teeth
Use for chewing and grinding food
There are a total of 8 premolars
MOLARS
Large teeth
Use for crushing and chewing
food.
There are a total of 12 molars
Last 4 molars are called
“wisdom teeth”
