Foul
In basketball, a foul is an infraction
of the rules more serious than a
violation. Most fouls occur as a
result of illegal personal contact
with an opponent and/or
unsportsmanlike behavior. Fouls
can result in one or more of the
following penalties: ... The player

the game.
TRAVELLING

Traveling – When a player has


committed a traveling violation,
the official will signal it by
placing both of his hands in
front of him and moving them

SUBSTITUTION
In team sports, substitution
(or interchange) is
replacing one player with
another during a match.
Substitute players that are
not in the starting lineup
(also known as bench
players, backups,
interchange, or reserves)
reside on the bench and
are available to substitute
for a starter.
JUMP BALL
A method of putting the ball
into play. The referee tosses
the ball up between two
opponents who try to tap it
to a teammate. The jump
ball is used to begin games
and, in the professional
game, when the ball is
possessed by two opposing
players at the same time.
3-SECOND VIOLATION

In a defensive three
second violation a player
cannot stay for three
consecutive seconds
inside the paint if not
guarding an offensive
player. The count starts
when a player's foot first
enters the area, and it
ends when both feet are
out of it.

Each shot

with one

three-point line,
two points are
awarded.

timeout is a halt in the
