2.3 Design Validation

• Process of evaluating the software during or at the end of the product

development.
• To ensure the manufactured system satisfies the specification in end-user
application or product and environment.
• Validation is concerned with demonstrating the consistency and
completeness of design with respect to the user needs.
• This is the stage where you actually build a version of the product and
validate against the user requirements.

• The purpose is to prove with objective evidence that the product satisfies the
documents of user needs

2.3 Design Validation

Why Design Validation?

•When a product prototype needs to be tested against the functional requirement,
initially it works fine but as a whole system, it fails to work as expected.
•If the design had been validated using effective evaluation, analysis, which
would predefine any failures, and then implemented the system will meet the
required specifications.

Validation Methods for Design:

– Demonstration and/or inspection

– Analyzing the design

– Tests are performed on the final design

– Test plan, execution, and results should be documented

DISCUSSION FORUM

 List the software's used for design validation?

 How does design assurance relate to design validation?
 Is the DV contrast to product quality?
