Patriotism and Nationalism


Patriotism
• the ideology of love and devotion
to a homeland, and a sense of
alliance with other citizens who
share the same values.
Nationalism
• is a political, social and economic system
characterized by the promotion of the interests
of a particular nation, especially with the aim
of gaining and maintaining sovereignty (self-
governance) over the homeland.
What is the difference between
nationalism and patriotism?

• Nationalism means to give more


importance to unity by way of a
cultural background, including
language and heritage. Patriotism
pertains to the love for a nation, with
more emphasis on values and beliefs.

the relationship of an
individual towards his
or her nation.

1. Respect the flag and value Filipino identity


2. Know your nation’s history and be able to
share it to others
3. Support our own products
4. Be aware of the issues in our country
5. Stand proud for every Filipino achievement
You may call yourself a patriot if
you consider these:

1. Friendly to everyone and do not hate other nations


2. Speak out our own language and not hesitant to tell
where you really came from
3. Loves own culture but also cares and respect other
cultures
4. Love our family, our neighbors, and our compatriots
5. A productive citizen
