Society
 Society is a large group of people who live together in an organized
way, often sharing the same culture(way of living) and make
decisions about how to do things and sharing the work that needs to
be done.
Business
 An organization or economic system where goods and services are
exchanged for one another for money.
Examples of when major businesses failed
while expanding to a foreign country
 Dunkin’ Doughnuts closed about half its stores in India citing lack of
profitability.
 Indians don’t have a culture of quick breakfast-on-the-go. Unlike
western families, Indian families prefer to have breakfast together in
the morning.
 Doughnuts are not considered as breakfast in India they’re considered
as a dessert.
 And the most important thing to consider is India’s rich local food
culture. They have many local substitutes which they prefer and
which are cheaper compared to Dunkin’ Doughnuts.
McDonald’s is failing in Philippines

 McDonald’s have been trying to gain market share in the fillipino


market for over 40 years, but due to the country’s rich local food
culture which is both cheaper and preferred greatly by consumers
the western food chain behemoth is failing in Philippines.
 Jolibee, a chain of restaurants, has the majority of share in the
filipino market as the founders are filipinos and understand the local
cuisine and food preferences and nuances (filipinos like a hint of
sweetness in even savory, salty or sour foods).
History and evolution of society and
business
 The history of business is in many ways the history of human society
and civilization.
 The primary economic activity prior to industrialization across globe
was agriculture.
 However even in those times, there were substantial non agricultural
activities in form of trade.
 Evidences of local as well as international trading are found in all major
ancient civilization including Egypt, China, India and Rome.
 By 3rd century, international trade had spread across Asia and Europe
 Business got new meaning with advent of machine.
 From 16th century onwards, there was dramatic surge in scientific
developments.
 For around 2 centuries, from 1602 A.D. onwards, Dutch East India
Company dominance became first colonization of Asian countries .
 At that times, the poor citizen became poorer and poorer and the rulers
became richer and richer.
 In 19th century, business and trade reached unprecedented level and began
to take center stage of human social existence.
 It was the period, economy became monetized.
 Money which used to mean gold, silver was now held as paper. This
helped in easy trading between deducting the limitations of barter system.
 By the end of 19th century, some future giants had been established.
 By early 20th century, there were a number of countries in Europe who
were competing with each other to dominate world of business.
Business in different societies of the world
 If we take a look globally business exists so as to serve the society. Each
and every nation around the globe is indulged in some kind of business in
accordance to their strengths and makes up for their weaknesses by
trading with other countries . Society and business can be seen as two
sides of a coin .

 Around the world different group


of societies are involved in
different businesses.
 China is the leading country in mining sector producing 400 tones worth
of gold every year . There is a designated society and a group dedicated
for mining sector which makes it possible to outperform so well .
 Similarly the US is doing exceptionally well
in agricultural products.
They exported almost 89 million tons of
soybeans to china in the year 2019 .

 Next, the US exports apple phones to Korea


and imports Samsung phones in return .
 Germany imports vehicles and its parts and exports aircrafts and space
crafts with the US.

 A chain reaction is formed globally with the help of numerous societies


working together in innovating and connecting with each other .

 Nepal imports majority of its petroleum and other various products from
India which a simple example of how business of different societies of
different countries work together forming a Trade relationship with the
help of business .
 Societies of limbus and rai are often involved in recruitment of British
army or also known as ( lahure).

 Business is a part or subset of a society.
 Business provides employment to the large number of people living
in a society.
 Businesses pays tax to the government. Taxes from business is major
form of revenue for many nations and the government utilizes it for
the welfare of society.
 Businesses deal with the necessary item in daily life for the
functioning of the society.
 A business should research about the culture and the society before
opening or expanding business there.
