• Onboarding is the process of bringing new hires into your
company—what Wikipedia calls “organizational
socialization.”
• When onboarding is well-executed, the new hire feels
welcomed and integrated. Expectations are clearly
communicated, mentors and training opportunities are
provided, and feedback is offered to support growth and
correction.
The Objectives
• Facilitates the new employee’s ability to
contribute in the new role
• Increases the new employee’s comfort level in the
new role
• Reinforces his/her decision to join the company
• Enhances productivity
• Encourages commitment and employee
engagement
On Board Planning
1) Presenting a clear path after initial offer
2) Providing city and office specific hyperlocal information (vetted
information that can not be easily obtained anywhere else)
3) How to make a memorable first day
4) Crafting a -90 day plan to ensure success
The first thing I got was a temporary sticky
paper name badge. I got my picture taken first
thing in the morning for my actual name
badge.

The next thing offered to me was a variety of


free snacks before orientation. I can't
remember what exactly was available, but I
recall getting a bottle of Smartwater and some
sort of granola bar. I think whole fruit and
coffee were also available.

After that, I received the following book on my


seat in orientation:
It's filled with colorful, simple pages
with helpful links to the corporate
website. The back of the book looks

And the last page of the
book has the following

During the break in
orientation, I received
the following Apple
keychain:
At some point during
orientation, I received my
actual badge. It came in a
large paper envelope along
with the following brochure:
At the end of orientation, I
received the main gift of an
Apple box filled with an XL Class
of 2014 shirt and a few cards
and envelopes
Along with a card worth some amount of
money in the cafeteria to use for lunch with my
manager, that was pretty much all I received
during the orientation session

I received a Macbook Pro on my desk along


with an iPad and a Thunderbolt display. I think
the Macbook Pro and Thunderbolt display had
brown packaging similar to refurbished item
packaging, while the iPad had standard
packaging. Although I obviously couldn't keep
these items, they were pretty fun to unwrap on
my first day.
Lastly, I received the
following gift of a black
Apple hat with a small
white Apple logo and the
following book on my
desk:
