 History of HPBV

• First butterfly valves were introduced in the

1920’s by companies such as Henry Pratt

• Until the 1970’s butterfly valves were
conceived as “low performance”

• The new generation of butterfly valves were

introduced in the late 1960’s by Posi-Seal

 History of HPBV

• The Posi-Seal valve was referred to as the

“Trunnion Valve”
• The Jamesbury valve introduced in the early
70’s was called the Wafer-Sphere
• Finally this new valve type started to be
known as the “High Performance” butterfly
valve
 History of HPBV

• High performance means higher pressures,

higher temperatures and better shut off over
a longer period
• Now there are more than a dozen major
domestic manufacturers competing in the US
market (several dozen if we consider imports)
 History of Tufline HPBV

• 1978 Introduction of 3”- 12” 150 & 300 lb

• 1980 Introduction of 14”- 24”
• 1985 Introduction of redesigned valve*
• 1992 API 609 face to face on all sizes American Petroleum Institute

Currently we offer valves as small as 2” and as big as

108”. 150, 300 and 600 lb class valves are available.
