Revenge Killing Love

(Wuthering Heights)
Emily Gudino
How do the revenge plot and the romance plot intersect? How
do they add or distract from one another?

Heathcliff marries the innocent Isabella in order to increase his social

status and inherit Thrushcross Grange in the future. He feels that
Catherine left him in his world to fight for himself.
Why does Heathcliff spend more time on revenge than on
trying to win Catherine back

Because he is a broken man who can't change his social class. He then
becomes obsessed with revenge, more obsessed with revenge than love.

● Edgar Linton despises Heathcliff and notices that he is up to no good.

Thought

Revenge seems to be one of the deepest instincts we have. Who hasn't said
“I hope he gets his”, or wished that Karma would strike sooner rather
than later? Out of control revenge, attack and counterattack, can be
blinding and destroy the lives of all involved. But our instincts and
emotions usually serve a purpose.
