Reported Speech
Reported or indirect speech is a way of retelling statements or dialogue
without directly quoting what was said. The modal verbs 'will', 'can', 'may'
(possibility) and 'must' (obligation) have an indirect form when used in
reported speech.
Example: "I can ski very well," she said. "I will see you later," he promised. She
said she could ski very well. He promised he would see us later.

and could take risks.
