DIRECT SPEECH: to inform exactly what the other
peson has said, we use direct speech. We use (“….”) and there is
not change in the words. Ex. He said, “what time is it?”
SUBJECT + VERB, + “ DIRECT SPECH.”

We have the text next Saturday. They said, “We have the text next Saturday.”

!There is a fly in my food! He/She said, “There is a fly in my food.”

*I am going to Paris next month. *He / she said “I am going to Paris next month.”

The night is beautiful. (Lina) Lina said, “The night is beautiful.”

I like listen to music. (Jeasson) Jeasson said, “I like listen to music.”


INDIRECT SPEECH: Verbal tense changes.
Use ‘that’ to report what the other person has said.

Subject + Reporting verb + that + clause

I buy a house He said that he bought a house

My girlfriend went to the doctor yesterday. She said that she had gone to the doctor yesterday

She is a famous Singer She said that she was a famous Singer

We were very sad They said that we had been sad
