• Dear Sir/Madam this November, we
are celebrating WAAW from 18th -24th
Nov.

• ICI Pakistan has launched a campaign

named “One Against Resistance“. Pharmacist is in the
center
• Within this campaign all HCPs
(Pharmacists, Doctors, Nurses and
Allied Staff all have a very important
role to play so we can combat
Antibiotic Resistance
Start with the problem

• Sir/Madam, every year 700,000 people die

of Antimicrobial Resistance by 2050, every
year 10 million people could die from AMR

• Sir/ Madam, as a pharmacist your role is

vital in combatting Antibiotic Resistance
and saving millions of life. As per the WHO
there are some recommendations I would
like to share with you.
Firstly, you are the one that can counsel
and provide appropriate instructions to
patients and HCPs when dispensing
antimicrobials.
Secondly, you could encourage patients
to take a full prescription and not save
their antibiotics for later and dispose off
leftover antibiotics
Thirdly, since you are the leader of
antibiotic stewardship you could work
with prescribers to ensure the correct
dosage and duration of therapy that is
not too long or too short.
Moreover, in winters during the flu
season it is common for patients to
demand antibiotics but we must
educate them to treat their symptoms
using other therapies that can help
achieve defervescence or provide
comfort in cough and flu and consult a
doctor
Lastly, a very important way of
controlling antimicrobial resistance is
infection prevention and control (IPC)
and pharmacists must be the driving
force for it so we can reduce hospital
acquired infections.
Sir/Madam,

ICI prides itself as a responsible pharmaceutical company with a state of the art
manufacturing facility.
We manufacture a number of antibiotics and always promote the rational use of our

combatting Antibiotic Resistance and saving
millions of life. As per the Center of Disease
Control in the USA, there are some
recommendations I would like to share with

Dear Sir/Madam,

The prudent use of Antimicrobials is very

important in combatting resistance.
I would like to share some CDC
recommended interventions with you.
Dear Sir/Madam,

Review antibiotics after 48 hours to answer

the below questions:

Firstly :

Does the patient have an infection that will

respond to antibiotics?
This can be done with the help of diagnostic
testing.
• If the patient has a bacterial infection:

• Is he on the correct dosage?

• Is he being given an AB via the correct route of
administration? (oral, IM, or IV)

• Can we us an antibiotic of a lower

strength/deescalate the AB selection against this
infection

• What should be the ideal duration of the AB?

combatting Antibiotic Resistance and
saving millions of life. As per the Center of
Disease Control in the USA, there are
some recommendations I would like to
share with you
• As a Nurse you are the most important
Stakeholder in Antimicrobial
Stewardship.
• Taking the lead in obtaining cultures at
the right time is an integral
responsibility which rests on your
shoulders as that will determine the
entire course of treatment.
• Nurses are in closest contact to the
patient and can advise doctors best
when the switch from IV to oral can be
made.
• Nurses are also the drivers of therapy
reevaluation. They need to prompt the
physician to rethink and revaluate
treatment options post culture result
or 48 hours after initial treatment.
