Becoming Certified
In every state, becoming a teacher requires a state license or
certification.

Teaching licenses are evidence that the person who has been awarded
a license has completed the requirements of that state.

Each state offers a variety of pathways to licensing including

undergraduate preparation, postgraduate study, master’s degrees, and
a variety of alternative routes designed for career-changing adults.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE A REFLECTIVE
PRACTITIONER?

For Schon, excellence in a profession such as teaching must be based in

practice. Reflective practitioners reflect on all that they do. So, for the
reflective teacher practitioner, teaching involves constant experimentation.

Schon stressed the fact that much of what goes on in good teaching is
based on reflective practice and cannot always be easily described.

A reflective practitioner builds and examines knowledge about learners, the

culture and curricula of schooling, and the contexts in which teaching and
learning occur; such a practice helps an educator to renew, revitalize and
maximize the teaching process at the same time.
