Introduction to Earthquake Engineering

Earthquake - geological phenomenon produced

by sudden release of energy
that generates seismic waves

Described by - accelerograms on Seismic data - readings performed

three directions in Seismic Stations
Objective: study the behavior of structures
under seismic loads

Static analysis

Conclusions

• Steel elements, results obtained analytically are

identical as obtained in Finite Element

• Moment capacity, computed analytically – the same in

both of the approaches, good tool to use in the future

• The way of defining the material behavior of concrete

and the way of modelling the rebars play a critical
role in the time efficiency of the analysis

• High performance computer – critical asset for

advanced structural engineering

• More youtube videos, this way you can easily remind

yourself when you forget how to do something
