Ms. Davis: I am so glad to hear it! For today’s lesson we are going to
be learning about using Google slides to make a presentation about
the life cycle of butterflies.
Class: Cool!
Ms. Davis: Well let’s get started then! Google Slides is a type of
software that people use to make presentations. These
presentations can be about anything!
Ms. Davis: Step two, please open your computers and go to the google
tools and select the icon that shows “slides”.
Ms. Davis: It should look like a yellow rectangle with a white rectangle
inside of it.
Once you open it, find where it says “Start a new presentation” then
select “Blank”
Then you will find the option for themes and pick a theme that you like.
Student: No I don’t.
Ms. Davis: Well that sounds like a monarch butterfly!
Student B: No.
Ms. Davis: Well that sounds like a pipevine swallowtail caterpillar! It is
all black or brown with orange spikes.
Ms. Davis: Yes, good job! Has anyone seen a chrysalis before?
Class: No.
Student: Four!
The larvae then turn into a pupa or as we know it, a chrysalis. The
chrysalis becomes clear right before the butterfly is ready to come out.
Ms. Davis: The Monarch then has to pump its wings full of fluid before
it emerges. The fluid comes from their abdomen. Monarchs only live 2-
5 weeks before reproducing.
Now that we have learned a little about a butterflies life cycle, its time
for the activity. Are there any questions before we begin.

Butterfly Life Cycle Presentation
Ms. Davis: So, for your activity everyone will research a butterfly on
their own and pick one to make a Google Slides presentation about.
You will need to copy the share link to your presentation and paste it
into the body of an email addressed to me.
Do not forget to write down one new thing you learned and talk about
it during your presentation.
Have fun, I look forward to seeing the finished products and hearing all
about new butterflies!
