HISTORY OF MISUNDERSTANDINGS

IN THE USA
Made by: Daniela Osmătescu FE181TR
WHAT IS MISUNDERSTANDING ?
a failure to understand, or an argument resulting from the failure
of two people or two sides to understand each other.
MEXICAN-AMERICAN WAR
MEXICO-UNITED STATES [1846–1848]

Stemming from the United

States’ annexation of Texas in 1845
and from a dispute over whether
Texas ended at the Nueces River or
the Rio Grande. The war—in which
U.S. forces were consistently
victorious—resulted in the United
States’ acquisition of more than
500,000 square miles of Mexican
territory extending westward from
the Rio Grande to the Pacific
Ocean.
THE US AND RUSSIA: A HISTORY OF MUTUAL
MISUNDERSTANDINGS
Since the end of the Cold War,
relations between the United States
and Russia have shown persistent
patterns of misunderstanding. While
both countries have ostensibly longed
to better comprehend the other’s
domestic and geopolitical policies,
they have not always managed to do
so. Washington and Moscow often
project their own worldview, strategic
priorities, and methods for achieving
them on the other, oftentimes
resulting in frustration and acrimony.
THE SINO-AMERICAN WORLD CONFLICT
It is based on a regional status
competition, which is increasingly
becoming global. Since China and the
United States are potential military
opponents and not just status
competitors and system antagonists,
their relationship can be understood as
a complex strategic rivalry. This rivalry
is particularly pronounced on China’s
maritime periphery, dominated by
military threat perceptions and the US
expectation that China intends to estab
lish an exclusive sphere of influence in
East Asia.
2017: NEW AFGHAN POLICY
On August 21, 2017, Donald Trump
announced his new strategy for
Afghan War and accused Pakistan
of providing safe havens to
terrorists. "The Pakistani people
have suffered greatly from terrorism
and extremism. We recognize those
contributions and those sacrifices,
but Pakistan has also sheltered the
same organizations that try every
single day to kill our people„.
2017–2018 NORTH KOREA CRISIS
• a regular joint U.S.–South Korea military
exercise undertaken in August 2017 and
U.S. threats, raised international tensions
in the region and beyond. During 2017,
North Korea conducted its sixth nuclear
test in early September, and heated
rhetoric was exchanged, stoking fears
about a possible war.
• While the tensions were mostly with the
United States, North Korea threatened
Australia twice with nuclear strikes
throughout 2017, accusing them of siding
with the U.S. and 'blindly' following
them.
TRUMP, TRYING TO CLING TO POWER
• Mr. Trump continues to block his
successor’s transition, withholding
intelligence briefings, critical
information about the coronavirus
pandemic and access to the vast
machinery of government that Mr.
Biden will soon oversee.
• Georgia, a state he narrowly lost,
“a scam”.
• Rudolph W. Giuliani, Mr. Trump’s
personal lawyer
