Review of literature
A literature review is a body of text that aims to review the critical points of current knowledge including
substantive findings as well as theoretical and methodological contribution to a particular topic. Literature review
are secondary source, and as such, do not report any new or original experimental work. Also, a literature review
can be interpreted as a review of an abstract accomplishment. Most often associated with academic- oriented
literature, such as a thesis, a literature review usually precedes a research proposal and result section. Its main
goal is to situate the current study within the body of literature review and to provide for the particular reader. A
well-structured literature review is characterised by a logical flow of ideas; current and relevant references with
consistent, appropriate referencing style; proper use of terminology; and a comprehensive view of the previous
research on the topic.
NEED OF REVIEW OF LITERATURE

Review of literature is required because:

• One of the early steps in planning a research work is to review research done previously in the
particular area of interest and relevant area quantitative and qualitative analysis of this research
usually gives the worker an indication of the direction.
• The review of literature indicates the clear picture of the problem to be solved. The scholarship
in the field can be developed by reviewing the literature of the field.
OBJECTIVE OF REVIEW OF
LITERATURE

Bruce W. Tuckman (1978) has enumerated the following purposes of the review:

• Discovering important variable.
• Distinguishing what has been done from what needs to be done.
• synthesising the available studies to have perspective.
• Determining meanings, relevance with the study and its deviation.
