RESEARCH QUESTION
In this research we want to know deeply about
how to design DTN by using simulator and
implemented DTN especially on WBAN (Wireless
Body Area Network)

21 January 2014 Sidang Proposal Thesis 5

RESEARCH PROPOSE
By doing this research, we want to take
advantages and study on DTN wireless
especially WBAN DTN. Beside that we also want
to know aspects relation with implementation
of DTN at WBAN.

PROPOSAL THESIS CONTRIBUTION
– Measure performances of DTN by using
simulation and implementation in wireless
networks.
– Implementation DTN on WBAN.

DELAY TOLERANT NETWORK (DTN)
The concept of DTN has origin in interplanetary
communication.

STORE AND FORWARD
A store-and-forward based DTN was originally
designed to support an Interplanetary Internet
(IPN). It is designed to operate above the existing
protocols in various network architectures and to
use store-and-forward message switching, where
the data is transferred from a node, held until this
node has a scheduled transfer, and then forwarded
it to another potentially dissimilar network [1].

CUSTODY TRANSFER
The bundle layer supports node-to-node
retransmission by means of custody transfers.
When the current bundle- layer custodian sends a
bundle to the next node, it requests a custody
transfer and starts a time-to-acknowledge
retransmission timer. If the next-hop bundle layer
accepts custody, it returns an acknowledgment to
the sender. If no acknowledgment is returned
before the sender’s time-to-acknowledge expires,
the sender retransmits the bundle.

DTN SIMULATOR
• NS2, Ns-2 is a discrete event simulator targeted at
networking research. Ns-2 provides substantial
support for simulation of TCP, routing, and multicast
protocols over wired and wireless (local and satellite)
networks.[6]

• THE ONE is one of DTN simulator in the world. It is

written by Java. In this simulator, it offers researchers
many source codes of famous DTN routing protocol.
Based on these implementations of routing protocol,
researchers can easily understand main logical of some
DTN routing algorithms.[7]

DESIGN SYSTEM

We will focused our research on two main domain. First,

we will make research implementation DTN on wireless
AP (1) then continue with second step DTN on WBAN
