SAUDIA History

On May 27, 1945 witnessed the first start of air traffic in


the airspace of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia with a single
DC3 plane, the plane that was dedicated to the founding
king Abdul-Aziz from the American President Franklin D.
Roosevelt, Which began operation to transport passengers
between Riyadh, Jeddah and Dhahran.

3-22 WALK AROUND CHECK (WAC) AND CONFIDENCE CHECK

Confidence Check – A safety check conducted by specified


stations before specified flights IAW the applicable JIC or SVM
form. The JIC or SVM form includes instructions detailing the
stations that are required to perform the check and flights to
which the check applies.

6.4 SDR Occurrence: An occurrence or detection of each failure, malfunction
or defect concerning:
6.4.1 Fires during flight and whether the related fire-warning system
functioned properly.
6.4.2 Fires during flight not protected by a related fire-warning system.
6.4.3 False fire-warning during flight.
6.4.4 An aircraft component that causes accumulation or circulation of
smoke vapor, or toxic or noxious fumes in crew compartment or passenger
cabin during flight.
6.4.5 A fuel or fuel-dumping system that affects fuel flow or causes
hazardous leakage during flight.
6.4.6 An unwanted landing gear extension or retraction, or unwanted
opening or closing of landing gear doors during flight.
6.4.7 Brake system components that result in loss of brake actuating force
when

6.4.8 An engine exhaust system that causes damage during flight to the
engine, adjacent structure, equipment, or components.
6.4.9 Engine shutdown during flight because of flameout.
6.4. I 0 Engine shutdown during flight when external damage to the engine or
the airplane structure occurs.
6.4.1 I Engine shutdown during flight due to foreign object ingestion or icing.
6.4.12 Engine shutdown during flight of more than one engine.
6.4.13 Aircraft structure that requires major repair.
6.4. J 4 Cracks, permanent deformation, or corrosion or defects or damage of
aircraft structures, if more than the maximum acceptable to the
manufacturer or the GACA.
6.4.15 Any part of the aircraft that would endanger the aircraft or any person
by becoming detached in flight or during operations on the ground.

6.4.16 Aircraft components or systems that result in taking emergency
actions during flight (except action to shut down an engine). The
pilot in command is the only person who may define if emergency
actions were taken.
6.4.17 Emergency evacuation systems or components including all exit
doors, passenger emergency evacuation lighting systems, or
evacuation equipment that are found defective, or that fail to
perform the intended functions during an actual emergency or
during training, testing, maintenance, demonstrations, or
inadvertent deployments.
6.4.18 Any other failure, malfunction, or defect in an aircraft that
occurs or is detected at any time if, in SV Maintenance's opinion,
that failure, malfunction, or defect has endangered or may
endanger the safe operation of an aircraft.

Inspection Authorization Issuance / Approval.

It is our Policy that ONLY SVA approved Inspectors can



sign inspection tasks on SVA Aircraft.
• That means a Approval from SAEI Chief Inspector.
– It is Unusual for us to provide Inspection Training (5 Days)
to MRO’s due to training constraints, and infrequency of
performing inspection tasks.

– It can be done with mutual agreement between MRO and SVA

• MRO’s providing line maintenance to us must get OTIA


when needed to perform inspection tasks.
• This MUST be obtained BEFORE starting work on the
aircraft.

One Time Inspection Authorization
2.2 That the requirements of this GMM chapter / section
shall be adhered to by all personnel performing
maintenance on SV fleet.
2.3 That only SVA Chief Inspector or his delegated is
authorized to issue One Time Inspection Authorization
(OTlA).
2.4 That OTIA is conferred to SVA/service provider's
maintenance/Inspection personnel to perform required
inspection task to provide immediate relief of AOG
situation.
2.5 All communication regarding OTIA request and approval
shall be accomplished via SVA Chief Inspector
Email.(sva_inspection@saudiairlines.com)

RII Inspection Task Handling
6.8 Required Inspection Item (RII) -is an item/task which if not performed
properly or if improper parts/materials are used, could result in a
failure, malfunction or defect which could endanger the safe operation
of an aircraft.

It is a mandated inspection task that must be accomplished by an


appropriately certificated, properly trained, qualified, and authorized
Inspector who did
not accomplish or perform any of the maintenance tasks on the item that is to be inspected.

Conditional Inspections
2.2 That the requirements of this GMM chapter /
section shall be adhered to by all personnel
performing maintenance on SV fleet.
2.3 To report events specified in 6.2 below to Safety
and Quality and SV Maintenance
2.4 To perform conditional inspections per
applicable Aircraft Maintenance manual (Ch. 5 AMM) whenever an aircraft
is subjected to an
event listed in item 6.2 as revised.

6.1 Conditional Inspection: A procedure to examine affected aircraft structure / component
after it has been subjected to an event.
6.2 Event -An aircraft encounter with one or more of the following occurrences:
6.2.1 Brake seizure.
6.2.2 Bird, Hail strike/Slush injection.
6.2.3 Cabin over pressurization.
6.2.4 Dragged Engine Nacelle/Engine seizure/Strut damage.
6.2.5 Extreme Dust condition.
6.2.6 Emergency Descent exceeding Flap down Speed.
6.2.7 Excessive Stick force.
6.2.8 Excessive Cabin pressure leakage.
6.2.9 Fluid contamination of Electronic Compartment.
6.2.10 Heavy Ice or Snow.
6.2.11 Hard/Overweight landing.
6.2.12 High Drag/Side Load landing.
6.2.13 High Energy stop.
6.2.14 Hydraulic Fluid reaction with Titanium.
6.2.15 Landing gear down limiting speed exceeded
6.2.16 Lightning Strike.
6.2.17 Leaving the runway or taxiway.
6.2.18 Mercury Spillage.
6.2.19 Nose landing gear towing overload or overrun.
6.2.20 Nose landing gear steering angle exceeded 95 degrees
6.2.21 Severe Turbulence/Buffeting/Stall/Exceeding designated speed condition.
6.2.22 Tire Burst/Tread Down.
6.2.23 Tail Skid/Runway strike/Dragged Tail
6.2.24 Volcanic Ash condition.

De-certified / De-certify Maintenance action:

A. That makes an aircraft technically unable to support


CAT II approaches as approved, but is otherwise
airworthy, i.e. MEL action.
B. Performed on multiple CAT II systems that exceed the
minimum number required for CAT II operations. I.e.
Maintenance action taken on 2 or more B747-168
auto-pilots or 2 II..,S receivers on a B777-268, etc.
C. A system failure during flight that makes the aircraft
technically unable to support a CAT II approach as
approved, but is otherwise airworthy.

2.2 That the requirements of this GMM chapter / section
shall be adhered to by all personnel performing

2.3 To install/remove special equipment upon request from
Marketing / Flight Operation and/or System Operations
Control (SOC).
2.4 That the installation / removal of special equipment will
be performed in accordance with (IA W) GACA approved
and accepted data.
2.5 That all installations/removals of Lower Lobe Attendants
Rest Module be restricted to JED only.
2.6 To document all special equipment removal/installation in
aircraft log book.

Special Equipment
Installation.
6.1 Special Equipment -Equipment installed that is not
part of aircraft normal configuration including:
6.1.1 Passenger convenience equipment, e.g. Stretcher
Kit, Medical Oxygen, Incubators and/or Oxygen Tent.
6.1.2 VIP/Flight Crew requirement, e.g. VIP Special
Configuration, Crew Bunks, Lower Lobe Attendants
Rest –Area (LLAR). O2 Marketing will provide seats.

NOTE : No Information on the Operation of Installed


Equipment will be given by technical staff.
Our crews have been trained or the accompanying
medical staff should be trained and able to operate the
installed equipment.
