THE VOICE OF ONE CALLING [b]OUT IN THE WILDERNESS,
‘PREPARE THE WAY OF THE LORD,
MAKE HIS PATHS STRAIGHT!’” (- Isaiah 40:3)

Messenger(malak = priest/prophet)- Mal 3:1 to prepare the way of the Refiner(to purify v.4 and
to judge v.5)
The Purpose
John the Baptist appeared in the wilderness, [c]preaching a baptism of repentance for

the forgiveness of sins. 5 And all the country of Judea was going out to him, and all the people of
Jerusalem; and they were being baptized by him in the Jordan River, confessing their sins. 6 John
was clothed with camel’s hair and wore a leather belt around his waist, and [d]his diet was locusts
and wild honey.

The Humility
And he was [e]preaching, saying, “After me One is coming who is mightier than I, and I am not

In those days Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptized by John in the

Jordan. 10 And immediately coming up out of the water, He saw the heavens [h]opening, and the
Spirit, like a dove, descending upon Him; 11 and a voice came from the heavens: “You are My
beloved Son; in You I [i]am well pleased.”

Nazareth- ne·tser meaning branch, Jesus become a new branch, a new beginning for the lineage
of David since the last king Zedekiah. Isaiah 11:1-2
