• Bending is the plastic deformation of metals
without change in surface area.
• If multiple bends are made with a single die,
the process is called as forming.

up to 150ᵒ in sheet metal under 1.5 mm
thickness.
• Different types of dies can be used to produce
many types of bends. The metal can be bend in
repeated strokes.

• Roll bending is a continuous form of three-
point bending where plates, sheets, beams,
pipes and rolled shapes and extrusion are bent
to desired curvature using forming rolls.
• Roll bending machine usually have three
rollers in the form of triangle.

• The continuous roll forming of flat strip into
complex sections
• The rollers speed is up to 80 m/min.

• Straightening or flattering is opposite of
bending, and these are often performed to
assure the flat or straight material.
