Fencing, Turfing and Planting

Particulars shall be given(W.1.):


• Kind and quality
• Preliminaries treatments(e.g impregnating or galvanising)
• Fencing specially designed to suit sloping ground(over 15 deg
from the horizontal ) shall each be described
• Fencing set out to a curve but straight between posts shall be so
described radius
• Posts, struts and other supports which occur at regular intervals in
fencing stating the size, spacing height above the surface of ground
• Pointing and driving posts, struts and other supports into ground
shall be in description of fencing. Excavating holes in clause W14

• Gravel-boards with or without centre stumps, reinforcing
tapes or wires shall be given in description in the fencing
stating the size and method of fixing
• Fencing shall be measured overall (i.e. wires over posts and
other supports) shall be measured from the surface of the
ground to the top of wire
Open Type Fencing
• Post and wire fencing(W.2)- given in m, stating height, gauge ,
number of line-wires, method of attaching line wires and
method of straining
• Post and rail fencing(W.3)- given in m , stating height, size and
number of horizontal rails and method of fixing the rails

• Chain-link and wire mesh fencing(W.4)-given in m, stating the
height, the gauge and number of wires, method of attaching line
wires, size of mesh and gauge of wire in the fabric and method of
attaching to the line wires
• Cleft pale fencing(W.5)- given in m, stating height of fencing, spacing
of pales, number of lines binding wire and method of fixing and
binding wires
• Palisade fencing(W.6)- given in m , stating the height of fencing, the
size and number of horizontal rails , method of fixing the rails, sizes
of spacing pales and treatment of tops
• Metal bar fencing(W.7)- given in m, stating the height, size and
spacing and arrangement of bars, treatment i.e. pointed , shaped,
method of assembling i.e. riveted, welded. Side stays , back stays
shall be deemed included

Close Type fencing
• Close boarded fencing (W.8)– given in m stating height of fencing,
size and number of horizontal rails method of jointing, type of
boarding i.e. sawn or cleft and method of fixing the boarding to
the rails. Weathered cappings and supporting fillets shall be
described
• Built-up concrete fencing(W.9)- given in m , stating the height of
fencing , the size and thickness of filling, method of jointing, size of
capping and method of fixing the cappings
• Corrugated fencing(W.10)- given in m, the size and the number of
horizontal rails, method of fixing the rails, kind and gauge of
corrugated sheeting, the laps , treatment of the tops of
corrugations and method of fixing to the sheeting to rails

Gates
• Gates shall be enumerated, stating size, method of
construction. Hinges, locks, fastenings shall be given in
description. Gate posts shall be enumerated. Holes for gate
posts shall be with clause W14
• Wicket gates shall be enumerated as extra over, stating size,
method of assembly, fixing including framing, accessories etc.
• Gate steps, gate-catches, gate stays shall be enumerated and
stating method of fixing. Excavating and bedding given in
description stating the mix of concrete

Sundries
• Concrete spurs(W.12)- concrete spurs for timber posts shall be
enumerated stating the size and method of fixing. Bolts and holes
shall be given in description
• Special posts(W.13)- ends posts, angle posts & integral gate posts ,
straining posts shall be enumerated separately as extra over. Struts
shall be given in description stating the size, number and method of
fixing. Holes for posts and struts shall be given in accordance with
clause W 14
• Holes and mortices for posts(W.14)-Excavating holes for posts,
struts and other supports shall be enumerated, stating size, depth,
nature of filling and disposal of surplus soil. Earthwork support
deemed to be included
• Mortices for posts, struts and others in concrete, brickwork, & etc.
shall be given in accordance in appropriate sections 6

Seeding & Turfing
• Particulars(W.15): timing of operations, method of cultivating,
kind, quality, composition and mix of materials, method of
application, and securing turves
• Soiling, cultivating top surfaces, fertilising for seeding and turfing
in m2 stating thickness, depth and quantity in m2 of seed or
fertilizer.
• Any requirement for watering, weeding, cutting settlement, re-
seeding, protective temporary fencing shall be stated
• Mulching after planting to beds shall be in m2 stating thickness.
Type of mulch, time and method of application shall be described

Planting(W.16)
• Particulars: Timing of operation, method of cultivating and
degree of tilth, kind, quality, composition and mix of materials,
size of pits holes , trenches type of support, special materials
for refilling and labelling
• Trees, young nursery stock trees, shrubs, bulbs and tubers shall
be enumerated. Stating botanical name, root system, girth,
height and clear stem. Watering, weeding, cutting, supports
and ties shall be stated
• Hedge plants shall be enumerated or m. Herbaceous plants
shall be enumerated or m2. Each of type shall be given
separately stating botanical name, size no per row or m2.
Requirement for weeding , watering , cutting shall be stated

• Excavating or forming pits , holes or trenches , refilling,
removing surplus excavated material and labelling shall be
given in description
• Mulching after plants round plants shall be enumerated
stating thickness and area. Time and method shall be given in
description
• Protection of plants i.e. tree guards, anti desiccant sprays and
wrapping shall be enumerated stating the size, height and
girth or height of wrapping
